At DCS, we place students at the center of their learning experience. Remarkable educators, resources, and opportunities equip students with the skills they need to explore ideas, initiate inquiries, and generate insights. Our academic program emphasizes critical thinking and builds independent learners. It is enhanced and enriched by a robust set of complementary activities that support and extend students' individualized learning experiences.
To ensure that our mission meets its motive, each student's course of study is carefully planned and followed. Each term a student progresses at his own pace unimpeded by others. Those with outstanding qualities are given opportunities to shine and not rust unfurnished, and others lend a helping hand with understanding to reach their potential. Tempering these are the joys of sharing, fellowship and fun: The sense of belonging that begins in the school and lasts a lifetime. Every possible effort is made, to recognise the significant factors of academic pursuit, maturing experience and enthusiasm to learn.
The Academic Year is divided into two terms - Ist Term (April to Oct) and IInd Term (Nov to March). The school conducts two formal examinations, once each term – SA1 and SA2. In between the two examinations, 2 FA's for each subject are conducted at regular intervals for a continuous academic monitoring and assessment of the student. For promotion to the next class, performance of the student in all FA and SA exams during the academic year contributes to his final assessment.
We aim at developing a student's proficiency in understanding and use English, Hindi & French or Punjabi languages and give them some knowledge of Sanskrit before they pass out from the school. We would even like them to study languages other than these three, though it can only be on a voluntary basis. From those who join the school at a later stage, we expect a certain modicum of understanding these languages, corresponding to the Class to which they seek admission.
Learning at DCS prepares students for life beyond the classroom. The 21st century needs independent thinkers, responsible citizens, creative problem-solvers, and confident decision-makers. We provide students in our school with a strong foundation in these skills. This helps students gain the skills, courage, and optimism to be successful.
Exploratory Methods of TeachingThe school has adapted innovative methods of teaching. We believe that to be successful in academics, sourcing of information, logical documentation and presentation are essential components in the learning process. Students are given projects to work on as a group and freely access major source books on their own. They have learnt to organize their ideas logically using computer hard discs, floppies and thereafter make presentations in class using multi media projectors. The teacher guides them in various aspects of communication such as gestures, posture and eye contact during presentations. For majority of the students, this is a new experience and naturally they are nervous at the outset. However, with time they gain confidence.
Science Practical and Class DemonstrationsCBSE syllabus recommends Science Practical experiments for Standard VI and above. The School provides well –equipped Laboratories in the discipline Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Maths.
The school has taken the initiative to conduct such Practical experiments for all classes to help them understand the concepts through experience. These experiments are demonstrated in the classrooms and laboratories.
Presentations and ProjectsBesides routine class presentations, students are often given independent projects during vacations to collect samples of man made materials, which they study in their course.
Learn while you playEach module is taught not as a subject but a part of everyday life. Trips/tours, Real life learning by going to places and learning them by sight, feel and experimenting
Teachers and pupil both are live while the Session is taking place .ie its both who are learning and not standalone the pupils
The focus of our intervention at the School is to enhance the learning levels of the children. The prime component of the programme is intensive Learning Level Enhancement Programme (LLEP) delivered through trained personnel and educational facilitators coupled with school development and management. A right mix of management & social development tools and practices are employed to accomplish our vision of holistic development of the children--Confident Children, Independent Learners, Caring Citizens so as to prepare our young for the future. Our children should grow up to be confident individuals, adept at working in a team and able to communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively. We believe that these interventions will create an environment and processes, which will ensure enhanced performance of the children.
